Artist Info

I have been a writer and editor for over 40 years, beginning in New York City in the 60's, when I worked with the "old pros" on the National Examiner tabloid newspaper. The "news" was entirely made up, but adorned with phony quotes, fake photos, and a pseudo-journalistic tone, the result was so convincing I believed my own stories when I read them later.

I also did research and writing for the Reader's Digest (Hells Angels, Motorcycle Safety), and flew to Louisville to interview Cassius Clay before he won the title and became Ali.  His mother was the sweetest woman and made the best potato salad I've ever had.

I have had novels and non-fiction published by major publishers such as Ballantine, World, Arbor House, Peter Pauper Press, and William Morrow, as well as many short stories and articles in major national publications. (See "The Boy Who Ate New York" from the National Lampoon, 1991)  I have also taught English and writing to students from Asia, Africa, and Latin America.

I studied street photography with Randall Warniers at MIT, as well as figure photography.  I won first prize in the December 1995 Popular Photography contest, and was later profiled in the magazine (August 1997).  I had a one-man show at the Brookline Public Library.

Recently, I began painting.  I have had my paintings exhibited at:

SDAI (San Diego Art Institute) (Juried into regional shows 20 times '05-'08)
Bard Hall (July 2005, July 2006, July 2007, July 2008) (two man shows)
Imperial Beach Art Walk (September 2005)
University Square Multicultural Festival (October 2005)
Winston's Beach Club, Ocean Beach (October 2005 and ongoing)
504 Gallery, North Park - Exhibited and curated monthly for 1-1/2 years
2nd Street Cigars and Gallery, L.A. Art Walk, July-September 2008
